Baby Gavin

We went to Boise for Thanksgiving to see the families. Since we completely forgot to take pictures of everyone else, we decided to put up a few pictures of Amy's son Gavin. He is the cutest freaking thing that I have ever seen. We just love him.

Battle Scars... (Not for the queezy)!

So I had a intramural flag football playoff game tonight and I was running really fast towards a player on the other team to tackle him and I collided with a player on my own team coming from the opposite direction. We hit heads. I was running pretty fast and I think I got the worst of it. Well... at least, he didn't bleed like I did. Enjoy!

I think that all will turn out well. I don't have a concussion or anything like that, but I still have jacked up thumbs. My only worries are if there will be a scar, if my eye brow hairs will grow back, and if the photographer can airbrush my brow for the Rademacher family pictures next week.

Adding Flava to the Home

So... this weekend we made our first home decor purchase for our apartment, at least, that's what Mallory said. I still think that our first home decor purchase was the Boise State banner I bought at the BSU bookstore over the summer. Anyway, we bought a mirror. It is 6 feet by 3 feet and weighs 55 pounds. Yeah... I know what you're thinking... well... that's what she said. So, here it is, hanging by two screws in the wall. We hope it doesn't fall down.

Vegoose 2007

This past weekend, we traveled down to Las Vegas. The reason for the trip was so that Logan could attend the Vegoose Music Festival that takes place there every year. Mallory got to hang out with Libby for the weekend too. The festival is a two-day event full of awesomeness. There were three stages where the groups would perform. Let me give you the line-up for the festival. On Saturday, 16 bands played. They are the following: Lupe Fiasco, Battles, Gogol Bordello, Mastodon, Blonde Redhead, STS9, Atmosphere, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, The Shins, M.I.A., Queens of the Stone Age, Federico Aubele (Live), Iggy & the Stooges, Thievery Corporation, and the headlining act of Daft Punk. It was a pretty good day. I got to listen to most of these bands play. I really liked STS9. They were an electronic/techno group. They played pretty chill music without lyrics. The entire time they played, a guy painted a canvas on stage. It was pretty cool. I had never heard of STS9, but I liked what I heard. Mastodon also did a good job. They are a heavy metal band and they wore some creepy costumes.

Every one at Vegoose dressed up. Yes...it was Halloween weekend. But, put together the elements created by Las Vegas, hippies, Halloween, and lots of weed and you will understand the freaks that were at the shows.

Cypress Hill put on a pretty good show and so did Queens of the Stone Age. They had a lot cooler songs than I thought they would. Daft Punk probably put on the best show of the night. They are a French techno group. They did a light show from their pyramid. You can go to ask.com and type in their name to listen to their music or you can see the actual performance on YouTube.

Lupe Fiasco

Blonde Redhead

The next day was pretty awesome as well. It was probably better than Saturday. The line-up for Sunday was: Pharoahe Monch, ALO, Ghostface Killah & the Rhythm Roots Allstars, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Ghostland Observatory, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Infected Mushroom, Umphrey's McGee, UNKLE, moe., Muse, and Rage Against the Machine headlining for the concert.

On Sunday, I got there and went straight to the main stage. I waited there the entire time (7 hours) just to hear Rage Against the Machine play. While I was there I heard Ghostface Killah (a member of the Wu Tang Clan), Michael Franti & Spearhead, Muse, and Rage. All four of them put on very good shows. Each one was better than the next. Muse did a really good job. Matthew Bellamy is the lead guy in Muse. He has a good voice, ripped it on the piano, completely thrashed on his guitar, and even spotlighted an airplane approaching the airport during his show.

Rage Against the Machine was probably the greatest show I have ever seen. They broke up in 2007 to the disappointment of thousands of people. Zack de la Rocha (vocals) split while Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass), and Brad Wilk (drums) recruited Chris Cornell (vocals) of Soundgarden to form Audioslave. They did an alright job as a band. Tom Morello is a very talented guitarist and they had a couple hit songs. However, Chris Cornell does not fit them. He can go have his own little solo career and become the next Cher. Rage got back with Zack de la Rocha and they started touring again. I think they have only played four or five shows since they got back together early this year.

Anyway, they were amazing. There was so much energy and anticipation in the air before they came out. Normally, stereo music would play in between bands while the techs were setting up the equipment. However, there was silence before Rage. They came out in the pitch black. One spotlight shone on Zack's mic. After about a minute, Zack stepped into the light and said what he says before every concert, "Good evening. We are Rage Against the Machine from Los Angeles, California." Then they started rocking out. They played 16 songs during their two hours. They rocked hard the entire time. The crowd was insane the entire time.

I waited 7 hours so I could get a spot at the very front. I was right at the rail, about 10 feet from the stage right in front of my guitar idol, Tom Morello. It has been my dream since I was 16 (just before the band broke up) to be in that position. It was amazing. Unreal! I took my camera with me and recorded lots of video and took a lot of pics. I used the entire 1 GB of memory on my card! I have never been at a concert jam packed with so many people. I could hardly move. The crowd would rush forward and everyone was jumping up and down. I keep getting smashed against the rail. There were times when there was so much pressure on my back that I would push will all my might (my hands and knees against the metal barrier) and my whole body would still be crushed up against the rail. It was very painful at times. There were several times when it felt like my ribs were cracking and I would gasp for breath. Today (3 days later) my ribs are still swollen and it hurts to touch them. I still have a big red mark across my chest, just below my nipples. But...it was definitely worth it. Every minute of it. The music was so awesome! Zack and Tom were going crazy the majority of the time and it was really fun to watch them. Definitely worth the money, the pain, the long hours of waiting in the hot Las Vegas sun, and the accidental inhalation of marijuana smoke.

Here's another video. I will post more when I can get the internet to work long enough to upload videos.

Our Wedding and Honeymoon

On July 7th, we got married in the Boise, Idaho LDS Temple. It was a wonderful experience and our family all came for the occasion. After the sealing ceremony we had a luncheon in downtown Boise at a restaurant called, The Pair. The food there was excellent. The reception was that evening at the Hammond Residence in the back yard. Everything was absolutely beautiful and all went as planned. I don't think we could have asked for a better wedding. It was everything that we imagined it would be and we are very thankful for all the people who came and for the opportunity to see all of our family. Here are some pictures of the whole experience:

The first night we stayed at the Grove Hotel in downtown Boise. It was really nice and a lot of fun. The next day we left for our honeymoon to Oahu, Hawai'i. We had a hard time getting to Hawai'i. I do not recommend flying United. They pretty much suck and have really long delays. We got delayed in San Francisco for six hours of hell. When we finally got to Hawai'i it was 5:00am Boise time.

The first four days in Hawai'i we stayed on Waikiki at the Outrigger on the Reef Hotel. It was really nice. It's a 3.5 or 4 star hotel. They did a wonderful job. The bed was really comfortable. We hung out on the beach for nearly the entirety of the first two days. We also did some window shopping at all the great stores there. We ate some great food as well. We ate at the Yardhouse one day and at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse another. That was awesome. We also went parasailing one day. Lot's of fun.

On the third day was picked up our rental car and drove up to the North Shore. While up there we stopped at the Turtle Bay Resort and got a couples massage. That was the highlight of the trip for Mallory. After massages we drove down the windward side of the island and scouted out the Haiku Stairs, which we were to climb in a couple of days.

The fourth day we checked out of our hotel on Waikiki (I would recommend that hotel to anyone) and we drove to Diamondhead Crater and around the southern tip of the island to the windward side. The last four days of our trip were spent in a vacation rental on Kailua Beach.

The first evening on Kailua Beach was spent bodysurfing. I taught Mallory how it was done. The next day we got up and drove north to Laie. There we looked at the LDS temple and took some pictures there. Mallory got pooped on by a bird while trying to take a picture of me climbing up a large tree behind the temple. We also drove through the BYU-Hawaii campus. Finally, we went to the Polynesian Culture Center for the remainder of the day.

The next day we woke up at 5am and went to climb the forbidden Haiku Stairs. The stairs are supposedly closed and it's illegal to climb them. There are signs all around that say "Haiku Stairs Closed! Government Property. Violators will be prosecuted!" But, that didn't phase us. We jumped two fences to get to the stairs. The climb is entirely up stairs. There are some scary parts. Mallory only went about 1/5 of the way before she got too scared to continue. At the very top you can see the entire island on a clear day. Unfortunately, it was cloudy for me at the top. But, nonetheless, it was a great experience and I loved every minute of it.

Later that day, after the hike, we rented a double ocean kayak and went out to the Mokulua Islands. It was only 2 miles off of the beach so we thought it wouldn't take very long. However, it felt like it was 10 miles.

The next day we went to Hanauma Bay and went snorkeling. That was a lot of fun. We saw a lot of fish and even an eel. However, we wish we would've gone earlier because it got crowded fast and the water got murky as more and more Asians showed up.

Later that day we just played on the beach outside of our rental. Here is the morning view from our door:

Mallory did get stung by a jelly fish. It was actually a Portuguese Man of War. However, I took care of the problem by peeing on her leg. She claims it didn't work.

The last day there we drove around to some lookouts and went horseback riding at Kualoa Mountain Ranch. The horseback ride consisted of a two hour tour of the Kualoa Valley. We saw the sites of many films and tv shows such as: Jurassic Park, Godzilla, George of the Jungle, Pearl Harbor, 50 First Dates, Lost, Aztecasaurus, etc. That was a lot of fun.

Overall, our honeymoon was the best vacation I have ever had. We loved every minute of it and can't wait to go back.
